Marine ecologist, research leader and expert in integrated monitoring, environmental risk assessment and Black Sea recovery.

Viktor Komorin works in marine ecology, monitoring and data management. His professional activities include organising field research, analysing long-term ecosystem change, assessing pollution impacts and applying European approaches to marine environmental policy.
A particular focus is maintaining the continuity of Ukrainian marine research during the war, strengthening international partnerships and developing the scientific basis for the post-war recovery of the Black Sea.

Candidate of Geographical Sciences (PhD equivalent) in Oceanology, 1999, Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Engineer in Oceanology, Odesa Hydrometeorological Institute (1989–1994). Academic title: Senior Researcher.
Lecturer at Odesa State Ecological University, 2005–2017. Author or co-author of 2 books, 3 book chapters and more than 60 scientific papers.
Expert Member of the UN Ocean Decade Advisory Board, 2026–2027 (IOC-UNESCO). Member of the United Nations Group of Experts for the Fourth Cycle of the Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment (World Ocean Assessment).
National Focal Point for GOOS and Ukraine’s National Oceanographic Data Centre contact within IOC/IODE. Ukrainian representative in the Black Sea Commission’s Advisory Group on Pollution Monitoring and Assessment.
WP1 Co-lead, Knowledge Base for the Black Sea, in BRIDGE-BS (2021–2025). Participation in Black Sea CONNECT (2019–2023), EMBLAS-II (2015–2018) and EMBLAS-Plus (2019–2020).
