About me
I have worked at the Ukrainian Scientific Centre of Ecology of the Sea (UkrSCES) since 1992. My work brings together marine observations, pollution assessment and international cooperation. I have taken part in 25 research expeditions.
I have worked at UkrSCES since 1992, combining observations at sea with data analysis and the coordination of joint research.
My 25 research expeditions have taken me across the Black Sea and Mediterranean, and into the Atlantic and Southern Ocean. Today, much of my work concerns the effects of war on marine waters and keeping Ukrainian observation programmes running.

Background
I trained as an oceanologist at the Odesa Hydrometeorological Institute, graduating in 1994. In 1999, I received the Candidate of Geographical Sciences degree in Oceanology (PhD equivalent) at the Marine Hydrophysical Institute, NAS of Ukraine. I hold the academic title of Senior Researcher.
I taught at Odesa State Ecological University from 2005 to 2017. My publications include more than 60 papers, two books and three book chapters.
Why the Black Sea
The Black Sea has been part of my life since childhood in Odesa. Decades of fieldwork have taught me to look beyond a single sample or season. Understanding change takes continuity. That is why preserving observations, and the people who make them, matters so much to me.
